Policies of Candidate

Decide by Comparing Policy Positions on Different Issues

One way to decide on who to vote for is to find out what each candidate “stands for” and then decide. There is no reason for thinking “Politicians are all the same! They all talk but you can’t tell what they will do in office.” YES YOU CAN! Suggestions for doing this:

–> 1 – Read the candidates’ policy positions on their own websites!

Donald Trump: His 20 Core Promises to Make America Great Again are on his website. Also, from there you can link to the Republican Party Platform that outlines many things in more detail.

Kamala Harris: She also has a list of core promises grouped under four main headings: “Build an Opportunity Economy” where you can also get an 80 page detailed description of what it means to help the middle class, “Safeguard our Fundamental Freedoms,” “Ensure Safety and Justice for All,” and “Keep America Safe, Secure, and Prosperous.”

–> 2 – Use a unique policy-rating “quiz” that helps you discover which candidate aligns with most of your beliefs.

Here is how it works. You will rate one policy at a time (125 in all – it’s worth the effort!!). Here is a sample of 5 policies, —>

When you are done with the exercise, you get a report showing you the policies you liked that match Harris or Trump. This is a great “objective” way to think about the issues.

Don’t be surprised to find a number of policies that baffle you – I did. Either because it was worded in a confusing way, or because I felt I didn’t know enough about the topic. That’s when you choose #3 on the rating scale – “Not Sure.” I’m pretty sure that they don’t count in your final score.

Below is just a part of the feedback you get when done. Unsurprisingly, my views on the issues align mainly with Harris (I am the “You” on this report).

In my view, there are so many different important issues facing our country that being a “one-issue” voter doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. That’s where this exercise can be helpful if you are not sure what “side” you are on.

So, the 125 item exercise on campaign policies is available in the Washington Post. I’m am not sure if you can access it without a subscription, BUT this link is SUPPOSED to give you free access. Hopefully it works for you!
